Unboxed or I Want Moiré
I always (jokingly?) say that I want the viewer's eyes to vibrate when they look at my quilts. This year, I learned the visual effect that I'm after has a name: Moiré. The moiré effect happens when a ruled pattern is overlaid with a similar pattern. Most people are familiar with this in relation to computer screens (which are a network of pixels) and when you try to take a picture using a digital camera (that represents the image in a network of pixels). The result is a wavy appears. That’s what I was going for with this quilt that I designed for the 2024 QuiltCon Fabric Challenge.
