Versailles '73

In 1973, there was a history making fashion show to raise money to restore the Palace of Versailles. The show featured five French and five American designers, one of which was Stephen Burrows. Following this event, he became the first internationally acclaimed African-American designer. His colorful clothes, known for their movement, shook up the fashion industry. This quilt design celebrates a collection of patchwork knits he created earlier that year. I recreated many of the fabrics he used and took inspiration from the shapes and movement of his clothing.
