Wavelength

I visited the exhibit at IQM and on a placard next to my inspiration quilt there was a question that asked something like "Where does the line begin and end?" I wanted to explore that simulated infinity and zoom in on a single square. I started with a spiral design and played around with how the lines might breakthrough and intersect to create something new. There were several details in the original that I wanted to incorporate in my design. Where the lines intersect in the original, it creates a window pane; my design features a nine-patch in colored fabrics and echoed in the quilting where the straight lines overlap. The original has non-square corners; my design includes 2 curved corners. The original used a navy fabric with small circles; my quilt uses traditional indigo-dyed fabric from Japan with a similar pattern. The original has a thin white border and dark binding; my design includes this as well.
